She is a performer, designer and a music innovator. She was at once modern and traditional. She was she was a Mexican American who brought two worlds together in a distinctive method. Her sudden passing that destroyed her image. That's what happens to many stars who die far too young. Fans have struggled over the years in order to keep her legacy alive. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena has triggered a response in the Latino community that can be compared to the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities across North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect the lives of young and old alike. Selena may have been hailed by some as a Latina Madonna, however she's still an excellent example to follow. Selena's off-stage family values and involvement with AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
